Roland HP 702 Charcoal Black Piano digital

Roland HP702 Charcoal Black — Premium Home Piano Performance

The Roland HP702 Charcoal Black brings uncompromising piano performance and style into the home at an accessible price point. Inside the upright cabinet sits Roland's SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling engine, which generates tone in real time through a computer algorithm rather than replaying fixed recordings. Players will hear the difference in every note — a complex, immersive sound that responds dynamically to touch. With Bluetooth audio and MIDI, Headphones 3D Ambience, and a responsive PHA-4 Standard keyboard, this model delivers a superior piano experience for far less than many expect.

What Sets the HP702 Apart in the Home Digital Piano Category

Unlike most digital pianos that rely on sampled recordings, this model uses Roland's SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling technology to reproduce the complex physical interactions of an acoustic piano in real time. Headphones 3D Ambience places the player's tone inside a virtual concert hall for late-night practice without disturbing the household. The PHA-4 Standard keyboard adds escapement and a textured Ivory Feel surface that absorbs moisture, keeping fingers firmly planted during extended sessions.

Sound Engine and Polyphony — A Limitless Tonal Palette

The piano sound is the heart of any digital instrument, and the modeling engine inside this cabinet delivers a level of detail that sampling alone struggles to match. Because the tone is generated algorithmically, every component — from hammer noise to damper resonance — can be edited through the onboard Piano Designer. Polyphony is virtually unlimited when playing solo piano tones, so even the densest passages sustain without note drop-out.

• Piano Sound: SuperNATURAL Piano Modeling — real-time algorithmic tone generation rather than fixed samples
• Polyphony: Limitless on Piano category tones; 384 voices on other sounds — sustains complex passages without drop-out
• A library of 324 total tones covers acoustic pianos, electric pianos, strings, organs, and a GM2 sound bank

Keyboard Action and Pedal Response — Authentic Acoustic Feel

The keyboard is where digital pianos live or die, and the PHA-4 Standard action offers fast-key repetition and high-resolution sensing. High-resolution sensing captures every nuance of touch, while escapement replicates the subtle let-off feel of a real grand. The Progressive Damper Action pedal system supports continuous detection for half-pedaling, soft-pedal techniques, and a function-assignable sostenuto.

• Keyboard: PHA-4 Standard, 88 keys — escapement and Ivory Feel surfaces with moisture-absorbing texture
• Pedals: Progressive Damper Action — continuous detection on damper and soft pedal, sostenuto assignable
• Touch sensitivity offers 100 key-touch types and 10 hammer-response settings for fine-tuning the action to personal playing style

Speakers, Connectivity, and Cabinet Dimensions

A compact cabinet houses a pair of 12 cm speakers driven by 28 watts of stereo amplification, delivering balanced projection in small-to-medium rooms. Bluetooth audio streams music from a smartphone through the onboard speakers, while Bluetooth MIDI connects to the Roland Piano App for interactive lessons and play-along songs. The Charcoal Black finish and slide-type key cover keep the instrument looking refined in any living space.
